(U) Upper Stages
(U) The Upper Stages Space Vehicles Program provides consolidated acquisition of the Inertial Upper Stages (IUS) to support the DoD Mission Model.
(U) IUS support the launch of Defense Support Program (DSP) satellites. IUS are upper stage used with Titan IV (or IUS can be used with the Space Shuttle) that can lift a 5000+lb DSP satellite to the required geostationary orbit.
(U) The solid propellant IUS is currently used to boost the DSP spacecraft to GEO following staging from Titan IV. The liquid propellant Centaur variants are currently used to boost DSCS and Milstar spacecraft to GEO following staging from Atlas and Titan IV respectively.
