Overview (U):(U) Weapons applications studies and operational scenario development comprise of HPM CCW. Principal employment concepts have been identified, and the physical mechanisms by which these HPM weapons concepts damage or disrupt individual electronic components is being explored. The operational impact resulting from C3 systems degradation within the context of an operational scenario is less clear. A preliminary assessment of a conceptual weapon's effect on a Command Post C3 system has been performed using the SPECT8/SIMUL8 code. Although this exercise involved a relatively limited C3 system, the assessment indicated that HPM weapons could exert a significant, measurable impact in this particular application. Follow-on studies and effectiveness analyses are planned involving other types of C2/C3 networks and different Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs). Concurrent development and refinement of the HPM source hardware concepts coupled with these studies will, in turn, lead to more detailed engagement analyses and a field test by the year 2000. |
