Overview (U):

(U) Navy UHF satellite communications terminals provide Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) and non-DAMA ship and shore UHF capabilities. AN/USC-42 (V) Mini-DAMA terminals will provide both line-of-sight communications and satellite communications using 5 or 25 kHz channels for aircraft (V3) and for submarines (V1).

Description (U):

(U) Shipboard DAMA system consists of multiplexers, control monitor groups, and radios. Equipment will be installed on all SATCOM equipped ships during regular overhaul, restricted availability and by alteration installation teams (AIT). The AN/USC-42 (V) system will provide UHF satellite channel utilization for aircraft (V3) and submarines (V1) for up to 8 half-duplex networks. Shore DAMA provides multiplexers, DAMA constant key alarms, control monitor groups, VME integrated communications systems (VICS) and miscellaneous interconnecting hardware for shore sites. Mini-DAMA is the second phase of the UHF DAMA program. Mini-DAMA will embed encryption and data transfer functions currently performed by separate equipment. Mini-DAMA provides a miniaturized version of the TD-1271B/U as well as incorporating UHF SATCOM and Line-of-Site (LOS) transceiver capability. The production variant will be provided with either a one or a two channel configuration.
