Overview (U):(U) NIMA develops, acquires, maintains and supports the Defense Dissemination System (DDS). NIMA also conducts follow-on system studies and technology efforts. |
(U) The Defense Dissemination System (DDS) sends digital imagery to SIOP tasked unified and strategic commands and multiservice tactical users. The Processing Segment accepts imagery data, compresses it, sorts it on a user selected basis, encrypts it and transmits the data via the Transmission Segment. The Transmission Segment relays imagery and process control data over terrestrial and satellite (DSCS and COMSAT) communications. The Receive Segment expands the compressed imagery, archives it, records it on film, and sends it to a soft copy system.
(U) To provide warfighters deployed world-wide with near real-time access to, and electronic dissemination of imagery and support data. Image data is near-original quality target-oriented imagery to warfighters in near-real-time based on user provided requests and priorities.
