Overview (U):

(U) Talon READY is one of eight functional areas under the Air Force TENCAP Program. Talon READY focuses on enhancing national systems products and applications for mission planning, preparation, rehearsal, and combat execution support. Talon READY concepts and developments must fit into the planning and support systems used by the operational forces (e.g., Talon READY products will be Theater Battle Management Core Systems (TBMCS) compliant). For FY98, Talon READY has one project, Project Previously Unexploited MASINT (Measures and Signatures Intelligence) Applications (PUMA).

Description (U):

(U) PUMA helps the user tactically exploit information from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) phase history data (PHD) while also addressing production and collection management issues that will arise from increased user demand. Examples of SAR PHD products include coherent change detection (CCD), dynamic imaging (DI) and micro-terrain elevation data (precise elevation data within scene). These products can be used to aid the warfighters in battle damage assessment, detecting camouflaged assets and identifying moving targets.

(U) Talon READY has completed formal evaluation of the tactical version of SAR PHD processing software (CASE Executive, Ver 1.6.1) and is updating CASE Executive to incorporate evaluation results. Additionally, Talon READY is working with customers to provide them with training and a low-level production capability. A SAR PHD user's guide is also being produced on CD ROM. This user's guide explains and provides examples of products, exploitation, collection and production procedures along with many of the more technical aspects of SAR PHD capabilities. Finally, Talon READY hosted a SAR Coherent Change Detection (CCD) Working Group in late Jun 98. This working group proposed methods for optimizing production of CCD products.
